Wondered why London smells of Dog poo?I have in fact for the last two days!... ...and I thought that I am going crazy and I lamented my bad choice of neighbourhood, but lo and behold! It was not my paranoid mind, it really smells of poo! Is a sewer broken? Nope, it is coming from France! Not love is in the air this springtime, but a smell that is wafting over from Northern Europe. According to an article in The Mail on Sunday, emergency services were flooded with calls from people across the capital who were alarmed by the stench. Apparently "strange" weather conditions have been bringing across winds from France and continental Europe that are laden with a combination of agricultural and industrial pollution. The horrible smell not only engulfed the whole of London but also Surrey, Berkshire, Kent and Hertfordshire. Sarah Holland, a forecaster for the Met Office, said: "Over the last few days, fresh winds have been blowing eastwards. "The origins of the smell come from Europe and have brought in pollution. "When the wind blows from the west, it is coming from the Atlantic so it brings in virtually no pollution, but when it is eastwards it is coming across land." The Met Office has been inundated with calls and is issuing a warning to people not to panic, the smell is not harmful! To find out about how the Queen has been affected by this and to learn about the "great stink" of 1858 - refer to the Mail on Sunday article that I have mentioned above. Well my opinion on the subject is this: Don't blame "strange weather" instead notice that our world today is so polluted that you can smell it! It is rare to feel the effects of pollution in the western world - usually we conveniantly keep it at an arms length! |
