Summer

Summer

Summer is usually the hottest and driest seasons of the year.

The sun is very hot and goes down very late in the evening.
The warmth of the sun helps the plants to grow their fruits. The warmer it is, the more sugar is being produced in the fruit. And have a look at an apple tree: The side of the apple that faces the sun gets coloured red or orange, unlike the side that is in the shadow.

Now is the right time to put on your bathing suit or your bathing trunks and go swimming. If you take goggles, you can check out what the sunlight looks like below the water surface. Take good care always to use good sun protection when you are outside. If you go swimming, take waterproof sunlotion.

How to avoid a sunstroke

If you are outside for a longer time, a hat and sunglasses will do you a good service. Staying in the sun for too long may cause a sun stroke. This means that the body gets too hot and doesn't have the means anymore too cool down again. One of the ways for the body to cool down is sweating. The little sweat drops on your skin are there to cool your body down from the outside. So make sure to drink enough when you're out in the sun.
Another good tip: Wear light colors. Avoid black and go for white. In white T-Shirts you won't get as hot as in black T-Shirts because dark colors absorb the sun (read more about the absorption of sunlight).
